Description

This is a mold-formed votive head made out of micaceous clay. The male has a youthful face, surrounded by an orderly row of curls. He also appears to have a cleft chin and thick lips. Notice on the back of the votive, there is a hole for suspending the object, possibly on a wall or another flat surface. Found in the ancient city of Veii, this votive could have been dedicated to a deity or hung as decoration in a domestic space. The votive gives us an idea of what craft production for votive offerings looked like between the 1st and 2nd centuries CE.
