Description

This ceramic left foot is an example of an anatomical votive most likely dedicated to a healing deity. The foot is hollow, has realistic features such as toenails, ankle bones, and an arch, and stands on its own base. There are also small traces of brown paint found between the toes and along the instep. The dedicator of this foot may have been having health issues with his feet and was seeking help from a healing god, such as Asclepius. Practically any body part that was in need of healing could be left as a votive, such as ears, hands, eyes, and breasts. These types of votives were extremely popular during the Graeco-Roman period.

Some objects may need supports added or should be hollowed out for the most efficient printing. Any questions about 3D printing should be directed to kelsey.disko.project@umich.edu.
