Wooden stamp
Object Information
6.0 cm L x 4.5 cm W x 2.9 cm H
Description
This wooden stamp comes from Karanis in Egypt, and dates to sometime between the 1st century BCE and the 4th century CE. In the ancient Mediterranean, bread formed a central part of peoples’ daily diet and, as in many places of the world still today, while dough was mixed at home, the bread was cooked in a central oven shared by a whole neighborhood. The best way to tell your bread from your neighbors was to stamp it before baking with a distinguishable design.

The downloadable files are in an .STL format which is optimal for 3D printing. We suggest using a free software such as Meshmixer to edit the file to your needs. Some objects may need supports added or should be hollowed out for the most efficient printing. Any questions about 3D printing should be directed to kelsey.disko.project@umich.edu.
