Red-Figure Plate
Object Information
Description
This object is a red-figure plate that could have been used in daily food preparation in Italy around the 4th century BCE. The plate depicts a woman in profile, facing left, and wearing some type of hat. She is encircled by Z-shaped stroke decorations, and the craftsman who created the plate stamped a rosette with leather before glazing the plate. The rosette stamp resembles an earring being worn by the woman. This plate was featured in an online exhibition entitled The Art of Everyday: Objects from Daily Ancient Life.
