Description

This ceramic figurine was found at the site of Seleucia-on-the-Tigris, an ancient city located about 29 kilometers south of modern Baghdad, Iraq. Excavated by the University of Michigan over six field seasons from 1927-1937, the archaeologists found evidence of four levels of occupation and over 3,500 objects. This horse and rider figurine was among these excavated artifacts, and it is broadly dated to the height of Parthian occupation in the region, 150 BCE – 200 CE. The rider wears a distinct headdress called a bashlyk, and there are traces of a red pigment that can be seen on the figurine. For more information on the excavation see “Seleucia-on-the-Tigris, Iraq”.

The downloadable files are in an .STL format which is optimal for 3D printing. We suggest using a free software such as Meshmixer to edit the file to your needs. Some objects may need supports added or should be hollowed out for the most efficient printing. Any questions about 3D printing should be directed to kelsey.disko.project@umich.edu.
