Description
This terracotta oil lamp is an example of a Roman relief lamp, a type of decorative lamp that features relief ornamentation on the body’s concave upper surface, known as the discus. This particular type of lamp originated in ancient Italy and was later adopted and copied throughout the Mediterranean world. This lamp’s discus depicts the mythical hero Herakles (Hercules to the Romans) along with his signature club and lion pelt.
Downloads
The downloadable files are in an .STL format which is optimal for 3D printing. We suggest using a free software such as Meshmixer to edit the file to your needs. Some objects may need supports added or should be hollowed out for the most efficient printing. Any questions about 3D printing should be directed to kelsey.disko.project@umich.edu.
