Description

This knife provides a glimpse into the agricultural practices of Roman-era Egypt. Designed with a slightly curved blade, its purpose was to delicately cut grape clusters from vines. The Karanis collection includes various agricultural implements and processing equipment, among which this knife stands out. It consists of an iron blade with a wooden handle, which is surprisingly well-preserved due to Egypt’s arid climate. Twine, made of palm, fiber secures the blade to the handle. Notably, the knife’s Greek design serves as a testament to the fusion of Greek influences with traditional Egyptian farming practices.
