Description

This 2nd–3rd century CE object is the top half of a plaster mold that was used to cast terracotta figurines of Isis or Aphrodite, or more likely a syncretistic union of these two iconic goddesses, which scholars have designated “Isis-Aphrodite.” There are three main theories regarding the potential function of statuettes made from this mold: 1) an object of devotion displayed in a domestic altar; 2) a household object used as decoration due to the figure’s aesthetic appearance; or, 3) an offering or gift placed at a cult temple.

The downloadable files are in an .STL format which is optimal for 3D printing. We suggest using a free software such as Meshmixer to edit the file to your needs. Some objects may need supports added or should be hollowed out for the most efficient printing. Any questions about 3D printing should be directed to kelsey.disko.project@umich.edu.
