Inscription

"Valeria Callityche, the freedwoman of Aulus and Gaia. A hairdresser." Latin: Valeria A(uli) et ((C))(aiae) liberta / Callityche / ornatrix

Description

Funerary inscription of Callityche, a hairdresser (“ornatrix”) from the town of Puteoli on the Bay of Naples, in Italy. Callityche was formerly enslaved by Aulus and Gaia Valerius. We don’t know if Callityche, which means “good luck” in Greek, was her actual name or a name assigned to her by her former enslavers.

Some objects may need supports added or should be hollowed out for the most efficient printing. Any questions about 3D printing should be directed to kelsey.disko.project@umich.edu.
