Description

This is a ceramic flask or juglet that depicts the head of Dionysus on the neck. The flask is triangular in shape and has a body that is shaped like a bunch of grapes, which also symbolizes the god Dionysus. The head of Dionysus is adorned with a fillet, ivy leaves, and berries. Made out of reddish brown clay, this object was used to contain liquids, most likely wine. Discovered in the Fayoum locality of Egypt, this object well represents the influence of Greek and Roman deities in the region during the 2nd century CE.
