Description

This silver coin is an Athenian tetradrachm, renowned as one of the most widely produced and recognized coins of the ancient world. Its obverse side features a striking depiction of Athena, the revered patron goddess of Athens, while the reverse showcases the owl, a creature sacred to her. Furthermore, coins such as this offer valuable insights into economic life, trade routes, and patterns of exchange during their time. For example, although this coin was excavated in the Levant region, we know it was minted in Athens because of the mint stamp ΑΘΕ on the reverse.
