Red-figure Pyxis
Object Information
7.8 cm H X 8.4 cm diameter (body); 3.2 cm H X 8.1 cm diameter (lid)
Description
This ceramic object is a pyxis, a small cylindrical container with a fitted lid often used by ancient people to store small items such as jewelry or cosmetics. This example depicts two women and an eros (cupid); one woman looks at herself in a mirror while the eros brings the other a storage box. The pyxis may be from the Greek-speaking area of southern Italy, called “Magna Graecia.”

Downloads
The downloadable files are in an .STL format which is optimal for 3D printing. We suggest using a free software such as Meshmixer to edit the file to your needs. Some objects may need supports added or should be hollowed out for the most efficient printing. Any questions about 3D printing should be directed to kelsey.disko.project@umich.edu.
