Bes figurine
Object Information
22.5 cm H x 7.5 cm W x 6.2 cm D; 324 g
Description
The Egyptian god Bes was a protector of households and families, particularly women and children, as well as a patron of music and merriment. This figurine shows Bes standing atop a palm capital or tall lotus flower, wearing a triple-plumed headdress. He is shown bearded and with his tongue out, holding a long object—perhaps a club or musical instrument.
This artifact was 3D modeled to mark Scott Meier’s retirement after 24 years as Museum Exhibition Coordinator at the Kelsey Museum. This object is one of Scott’s favorites due to the playful responses it gets from young visitors, who like to stick their tongues out in the galleries to mimic the figurine. “Anything that can elicit that kind of response in a museum is great to me!” he says. We hope that this model serves as a reminder of the lasting impact Scott has made on the museum and the tens of thousands of visitors who have passed through the galleries and temporary exhibits he designed, built, and installed. Thank you, Scott!
Downloads
The downloadable files are in an .STL format which is optimal for 3D printing. We suggest using a free software such as Meshmixer to edit the file to your needs. Some objects may need supports added or should be hollowed out for the most efficient printing. Any questions about 3D printing should be directed to kelsey.disko.project@umich.edu.
