Description

This painted jar, dating from the late Roman period to the beginning of the Byzantine period, offers a glimpse into the material culture of ancient Egypt. The most captivating feature of the jar is a wide band that spans the main body. It is divided into five vignettes, depicting various animals such as fowls, an ibex, a possible rabbit, and an indistinct creature due to the deteriorated paint. These representations offer valuable insights into the types of game that the ancient Egyptians likely held in high regard and consumed as part of their feasts.
